To better understand the evolving role of presales and solutions engineering—and the challenges of scaling presales in today’s B2B sales environment—we partnered with Wynter, a B2B message testing platform, to conduct a targeted survey. Our goal was to uncover the real-world challenges, priorities, and tooling strategies of sales engineering leaders and their cross-functional partners.

The survey captured insights from 50 senior professionals across companies ranging in size from mid-market to enterprise, with the majority representing the SaaS and technology sectors. Respondents held roles spanning sales engineering leadership, revenue operations, product marketing, and sales enablement—offering a holistic view of the presales function.

This report summarizes key findings from the research, including:

  • Presales teams are overextended and under-leveraged
  • Demo pain points correlate with team resourcing
  • Tools and tactics are being used (or avoided) to scale demos
  • Executive perceptions of presales value and investment priority

As a result, these insights help go-to-market teams, product marketing, and enablement leaders optimize demo strategies and maximize presales impact in 2025 and beyond.

  • Teams value presales but often underutilize it.
    • 74% of respondents believe the presales/solutions engineering function helps their team win deals.
