What’s your name? Where do you work?
I’m Danny Leonard and I am Co-Founder of Ramped Careers.
Your most embarrassing sales story
I would say the most embarrassing one was at Groupon, we launched an album for an artist called David Grey. It was supposed to be this big promotion… Ellen was supposed to speak about it on her show, Regis was supposed to speak about it on his show. The day of the launch, neither of them spoke about it on their shows and the album was a flop on Groupon. That was pretty embarrassing.
Golden rule of sales
What I would say to early salespeople is the more active you are, the better your skills will be so the more times you call and fail, you will improve naturally.
Funniest thing a client has told you
One time I was calling into a restaurant chain and an owner put me on hold for an hour and told me that he was going to come back and I think this was an opportunity for one of us to show who is the most stubborn. I won out and he came back and ultimately we won the deal.
Your best sales tip
My best sales tip is something that I preach all the time and very often is to heavily and rigorously qualify the prospect before you put them into your formal sales pipeline.
What do you love the most about sales
What I love the most about sales is the fact that you can directly see your results impact the bottom line of the business. Every dollar you bring in, every prospect you help can be realized on a scoreboard and I really do like that about sales.
Sell me a walnut!
I’m curious to know, do you find it important in your day to day to be sharp mentally? Using exactly what you said, I have the perfect food for you to snack on. Walnuts are great for you, not only for your mental sharpness but they keep you physically nurtured so they are the perfect option for you.
